How I fell in love with Ubuntu linux

I started my journey in 2010 when I was in the first year of my college, I installed Ubuntu which is a derivative of Ubuntu Linux, to my friends computer, but my friend removed Ubuntu immediately from a system because he worried that it might corrupt his Windows 7. Later on in the year 2011 when I got promoted to 2nd year of my college, my father bought me a Dell laptop. It was an average laptop compared to my other friends. So along with Windows 7, I installed Ubuntu on my system which nobody dared to do on their laptops in my batch that time.

After working on Ubuntu for some days I felt that I was in love with Ubuntu. So the main reasons due to which I fell in love with Ubuntu Linux are

  1. The first and most important reason to use Ubuntu is Ubuntu fonts are very smooth compared to Windows or any other Linux distributor whether it is Debian, Opensuse, Linux mint, Fedora etc.. Font rendering in Ubuntu is smooth, beautiful and perfect. It is very satisfactory to Eyes.
  2. The second reason is Ubuntu software centre. In Ubuntu software Centre there are a lot of free apps which we cannot find in Windows. In windows, for just some basic work you need proprietary software, but in Ubuntu Linux there are a lot of open source softwares like Libre Office, Genie etc. which you can install very easily using either Ubuntu software Centre or by just using a simple command line.
  3. Since I was a computer science student I faced difficulty while programming in Windows. There was no good and free software in which I could easily write programs and compile them. But in Ubuntu I can install any compiler by just using a command line and I can write programs using Genie app which is similar to Notepad plus plus but much powerful than Notepad plus plus because in notepad plus plus you could only write your programs while in Genie you can write your programs as well as compile, build and run them in just one click. So Ubuntu is very good in writing programs.
  4. Windows is a restrictive environment. You cannot do much change in Windows display but in Linux you can just install a number of Desktop Environment and you are good to go.

Today in 2019 : I have replaced HDD with SSD and increased Ram. Now my system is fastest among my all other friends’. I’m running Ubuntu 18.04 with XFCE desktop environment because Unity and Gnome both are heavy resource consumers. During all these years there are many instances where my both operating systems got corrupted due to dual boot and Ubuntu and I had to install both a lot of times. But It was a learning curve that I now finally have crossed. Now I am expert in dual boot setup.
